It's Nice To Meet You

Hi, I’m Alex! I’m passionate about all things travel and feel incredibly lucky to have visited some amazing destinations across the world, including New York, Las Vegas, Orlando, Colombia, China, Thailand, Spain, and Greece… and the list goes on!

I’m based near Chester and the Wirral, where I live with my partner and our three beautiful girls. While family travel has recently shaped much of my travel itinerary, ensuring the kids are happy and entertained, I never compromise on quality. I love staying in luxury, all-inclusive hotels because, let’s face it, mummy needs a little luxury too! That said, I still find ways to indulge in my own adventures, like a milestone birthday trip to Universal Studios without the kids, and I’m looking forward to a kid-free city break to New York.

One of the things I love most is the research and planning behind every trip. I adore the process of imagining the perfect getaway, exploring destinations, finding the best accommodations, flights, and activities – ensuring that each trip is unforgettable. This passion is what led me to become a Travel Counsellor, where I can use my expertise and enthusiasm to help others plan their dream vacations.

As a Travel Counsellor, my goal is to create personalized travel experiences tailored to what you want. Whether you’re dreaming of an all-inclusive beach resort, a multi-centre holiday, an exciting city break, or even an adventurous day trip, I can’t wait to design the perfect getaway for you.

I would love to help you plan your next holiday and I’m always just a phone call away if you need any advice or have any questions. So, let’s get started – get in touch, and let’s start planning your next amazing adventure!

Why Book with a Travel Counsellor: Personalised Service vs DIY Travel

21 May 2025

In a world where booking a holiday seems as easy as a few clicks, it’s tempting to go the DIY route when planning your next adventure. But behind the glossy images and “best price guarantees” lies a maze of logistics, fine print, and what-ifs. That’s where a Travel Counsellor comes in — not just as a booking agent, but as your dedicated travel partner. So, what exactly sets me as a Travel Counsellor apart from the DIY approach? Let’s dive in. ?? Personalised Service From Start to Finish DIY travel often starts with hours of research — comparing flights, reading endless reviews, trying to piece together the perfect itinerary. I remove that burden by getting to know you, your preferences, and your travel style. Whether you’re dreaming of a family escape to Bali, a luxury Nile cruise, or a bespoke honeymoon in Santorini, I design your trip around you. No generic packages. Just a tailor-made experience built with care and insight. ??? Peace of Mind, Every Step of the Way Travel isn’t always smooth sailing. Delayed flights, last-minute changes, or even natural disruptions can quickly derail a DIY trip. But when you’ve booked with me, you’re never alone. I'm there to support you 24/7, ready to step in with solutions — not call centre queues. From the moment you book until you return home, you have a real person in your corner. ?? Expert Knowledge You Can Trust Online booking platforms offer options — too many options. But quantity doesn’t mean quality. I draw on first-hand experience, trusted suppliers, and insider knowledge to recommend what’s actually worth your time and money. Whether it's the best family-friendly hotel in Singapore or a hidden gem restaurant in Ubud, I offer insights you simply won’t find on comparison sites. ?? Time is Money — Let Us Save You Both Planning your own holiday can take hours — and it’s still easy to make costly mistakes. I handle the research, bookings, and logistics while keeping your budget top of mind. Many travellers are surprised to learn that as a Travel Counsellor I often have access to exclusive rates and added-value perks you won't find online. ?? It’s About Relationships, Not Transactions Perhaps the biggest difference? I care. You’re not just a booking reference. I want your holiday to be flawless, because your experience matters to me. My business is built on relationships, recommendations, and repeat clients — not algorithms. ?? Ready to Travel the Personal Way? The next time you’re dreaming of an escape, consider choosing a travel experience that’s designed around you — not a one-size-fits-all website. With me you're not just booking a holiday. You're investing in peace of mind, expert advice, and a truly personalised experience. Let’s make your next trip unforgettable — together.

Your Guide to Witnessing and Protecting Endangered Wildlife on Your Travels

14 May 2025

Every year, Endangered Species Day reminds us of the urgent need to protect the incredible animals we share our planet with. While the challenges facing many species are immense, responsible travel gives us a unique chance to not only witness these majestic creatures in their natural habitats, but also contribute meaningfully to their survival. By choosing ethical travel operators, supporting community-based conservation, and understanding the threats wildlife face, we can turn our journeys into powerful acts of preservation. Whether trekking through misty mountains or walking barefoot on protected beaches, here’s how you can witness some of the world’s most endangered species—and help protect them for generations to come. Swing into Action – Bornean Orangutans Hidden deep within the lush rainforests of Malaysian Borneo lies the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, a sanctuary for the critically endangered Bornean orangutan. This pioneering centre rescues orangutans orphaned by deforestation and poaching, rehabilitating them before releasing them back into the wild. A visit here allows you to observe orangutans in a semi-wild setting, watching their playful antics while knowing your presence helps fund rescue missions, medical care, and habitat protection. It's an inspiring reminder of what compassionate travel can achieve. Step into the Wild – Black Rhinos In the vast savannahs of Kenya, Lewa Safari Camp offers a front-row seat to one of Africa’s most inspiring conservation stories. Located in the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, this 65,000-acre protected area is home to over 100 black rhinos—14% of Kenya’s entire population. Guests can embark on immersive bush walks and game drives while supporting initiatives that extend beyond wildlife: education, healthcare, and micro-enterprise programmes that uplift local communities. It’s a journey that connects nature conservation with human empowerment. A Journey to the Highlands – Mountain Gorillas Imagine standing just metres away from a silverback gorilla in the misty forests of Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. Thanks to sustainable tourism and long-term conservation work, mountain gorilla populations are slowly rebounding from the brink of extinction. Operators like Sense of Africa ensure that each trek contributes directly to conservation. Gorilla trekking permits help fund anti-poaching efforts, habitat protection, and community development. The experience is as humbling as it is hopeful. Protecting Hatchlings – Green Turtles On Costa Rica’s pristine Pacific coastline, organisations like Tortugas de Osa are safeguarding one of the world’s most ancient sea creatures: the endangered green turtle. Their work includes beach patrols, nest protection, and hatchling releases. Visitors can join guided night walks or volunteer with the team, offering hands-on support while respecting the turtles’ fragile nesting grounds. Whether watching a female turtle lay her eggs under a moonlit sky or seeing hatchlings dash to the sea, these moments are nothing short of magical. Wander into the Woods – Marsican Brown Bears In Italy’s Apennine Mountains, the critically endangered Marsican brown bear teeters on the edge of extinction—with just around 60 individuals remaining. But hope is alive thanks to Rewilding Apennines, a project supported by our travel partner Exodus Travels. Travellers on Exodus' guided adventures explore “Bear-Smart Corridors,” engage with conservation communities, and track wildlife through breathtaking ancient landscapes. This is more than a holiday—it’s a chance to become part of a remarkable rewilding success story. Travel That Gives Back Every encounter with endangered wildlife carries the potential to inspire and to protect. By making informed, ethical choices while travelling, we can all become guardians of the wild. Let’s use our journeys not just to see the world—but to safeguard its most vulnerable inhabitants. From Barcelona to Rome: How My First Cruise Surprised Me in the Best Way

28 April 2025

My First Cruise Experience: Barcelona to Rome with Royal Caribbean After years of wondering if cruising was for me, I was lucky enough to be invited on the newly amplified Allure of the Seas with Royal Caribbean on a 4-day sailing from Barcelona to Rome. And now? I’m completely hooked. I wanted to share a full rundown of my first impressions, highlights, and honest thoughts — especially if you're considering your first cruise too. First Impressions: The Size, the Ease, and the Wow Factor The first thing that struck me was the sheer size of the ship. I knew it was going to be big, but wow — it was absolutely enormous (and it’s not even the biggest ship in Royal Caribbean’s fleet!). Check-in was a breeze — smooth, stress-free, and incredibly well-organised. We explored the ship while waiting for the cabins to be ready, and by the time we made our way to our room, our luggage was already there waiting for us. The Cabin: Spacious and functional Our stateroom was a lovely surprise — spacious, stylish, and perfectly comfortable for two, with a private balcony offering gorgeous ocean views. The only small critique I’d have is that the shower could have been a little more spacious, but honestly, with everything else on offer, it didn’t detract from the experience at all. So Much to Do: Something for Everyone I was genuinely amazed at the volume and variety of things to do onboard. Whether you're travelling as a couple, a family, solo, or with friends, there’s truly something for everyone. Our first stop was Palma. Since I had visited before, I decided to stay onboard — and I’m so glad I did. The ship was practically empty, giving me the perfect chance to explore, relax by the pool, and even enjoy the waterslides without any queues. I also braved the Abyss slide (highly recommend!) — although I have to admit, I chickened out of trying the zip line! Day at Sea: A Pleasant Surprise I’ll be honest — I was a little nervous about our full day at sea. I imagined long queues, crowded spaces, and feeling “stuck” onboard. But the reality couldn’t have been further from that. There was so much space everywhere, no waiting for food or drinks, and the atmosphere was so relaxed. In fact, it felt as easy and enjoyable as the day before when most guests were off the ship. Ports and Excursions Our final stop was La Spezia, Italy — a gateway to some incredible places like Pisa, Florence, and Cinque Terre. Whether you want a full day of sightseeing or prefer wandering local streets, there's so much to experience. The Food: Beyond All Expectations The food onboard truly deserves its own mention. The buffet restaurant had an incredible selection — literally something for every craving — and the main dining room offered beautifully presented dishes that changed daily. Beyond that, there were burgers, pizza, hot dogs, ice cream, and some truly exceptional specialty restaurants. I was lucky enough to enjoy a dinner at Chops Grill, a premium steakhouse, and it was absolutely delicious — well worth it for a special night. The Entertainment: World-Class The entertainment onboard was nothing short of spectacular. The Aqua Show was genuinely one of the best performances I’ve ever seen — think acrobatics, high diving, and incredible staging, all under the stars. And that was just the beginning — live music, bands, singers, sports bars, game shows, karaoke, comedy nights…the list goes on. During the day, there was everything from quizzes to spa treatments, a full gym, a running track, shops, and adults-only quiet spaces. Kids and teens had dedicated clubs too, packed with activities. Final Thoughts: Will I Cruise Again? Before this trip, I was hesitant — worried about the crowds, the logistics, and whether cruising was "for me." Now? I can honestly say I’m already planning my next one. I’ve stayed at All-Inclusive hotels where it’s been harder to get a table or a sun lounger than it was onboard the ship. The sense of luxury, the variety of activities, the quality of food and entertainment, and the overall value for money completely won me over. If you’re even slightly considering a cruise — do it. You might just love it as much as I did.

The 7 Best Stopover Destinations for Your Next Trip

14 April 2025

Long-haul flights don’t have to mean hours of boredom or endless scrolling in the departure lounge. With a little planning, your stopover can become a mini holiday in its own right—giving you the chance to discover a new city, try local delicacies, and tick a few extra sights off your travel bucket list. Many airlines now offer stopover programs, making it easier (and often cheaper) to explore a second destination on your way to somewhere else. Whether you’ve got a few hours or a couple of days to spare, here are seven top stopover cities worth planning into your next adventure. 1. Singapore – Where the Airport Is Just the Beginning If you’re flying through Changi Airport, you’re already off to a good start. Often dubbed the best airport in the world, Changi is home to butterfly gardens, a rooftop pool, a 40-metre indoor waterfall, and even a cinema. But don’t just stay in the terminal—hop on the metro and explore the city! Marvel at the futuristic Gardens by the Bay, wander through the misty Cloud Forest, or walk the elevated Supertree Grove skyway. Then, refuel at a hawker centre with local staples like chilli crab or Hainanese chicken rice. Airline: Singapore Airlines Great for: Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand stopovers 2. Dubai – Futuristic Glitz Meets Desert Adventure With year-round sunshine and ultra-modern architecture, Dubai is a stopover like no other. Perfect for every type of traveller, this UAE city offers everything from luxury shopping to epic desert safaris. In a few hours, visit the jaw-dropping Burj Khalifa, shop at the Dubai Mall, or relax on Kite Beach. If you’ve got a full day or more, try dune bashing in the desert, followed by a sunset BBQ under the stars. Airline: Emirates Great for: Africa, Indian Ocean islands, Australasia 3. New York City – Big City Buzz in Just a Few Days A stopover in NYC is a chance to get a quick hit of big-city energy before heading off to your next adventure. From bagels in Central Park to Broadway shows and late-night pizza, this city packs a punch even in just 48 hours. Must-sees include Times Square, the Empire State Building, Brooklyn Bridge, and a ride on the Staten Island Ferry for a free view of the Statue of Liberty. Airlines: British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, United Airlines, Aer Lingus Great for: North and South America stopovers 4. Lisbon – Charming, Walkable, and Full of Flavor Lisbon might not be your first thought for a stopover—but it should be. With its compact layout, sunny climate, and rich cultural tapestry, it’s ideal for a short break on your way to Africa or South America. Stroll through the historic Alfama district, visit the Belém Tower, and don’t miss a visit to Pastéis de Belém for a warm pastel de nata straight from the oven. Airline: TAP Air Portugal Great for: South America and Africa 5. Amsterdam – Laid-Back Canals and Cultural Cool Thanks to KLM’s free stopover program, Amsterdam is a no-brainer. Just 20 minutes from Schiphol Airport, you can be cruising along canals or visiting world-class museums in no time. Cycle through Vondelpark, visit the Van Gogh Museum, or explore the moving exhibits of the Anne Frank House. Then grab a stroopwafel and watch the world go by from a cosy café. Airline: KLM Great for: Africa, Asia, the Americas, and more 6. Miami – Tropical Vibes and Cultural Flair For a colourful layover, Miami brings the heat—literally. With its iconic Art Deco District, lively Little Havana, and vibrant Wynwood Walls, it’s perfect for travellers en route to the Caribbean or Latin America. Set in a sun-drenched location with year-round warmth, this villa is perfect for extended families or even multiple families holidaying together. Whether it's a morning dip in your private pool or dinner under the stars, Villa Sunset makes it easy to feel right at home—even while you're miles away from it. ??? Tailored Moments That Bring Everyone Closer One of the best parts of villa life? You get to design your day, your way. Villa Lisce in Croatia is a fantastic example of a space that adapts to your rhythm. Spanning three floors, this spacious retreat offers a heated pool, sauna, and hot tub—ideal for unwinding after a day of exploring. Cook up a storm in the outdoor kitchen or gather for long, lazy lunches under the sun. The sweeping views from the villa’s terraces create the perfect backdrop for laughter, connection, and quality time. Every detail is crafted for comfort, turning ordinary days into unforgettable family moments. ? Extra Touches for Unforgettable Experiences What turns a great holiday into an extraordinary one? The details. At Vila Shangri-La in Zante, you’ll discover those magical extras that make all the difference—from the option of a private chef to a spa building just steps away from your living space. Whether you’re planning a peaceful yoga retreat, a special family celebration, or just want to treat yourselves to something extra, this villa delivers luxury with a personal touch. With stunning surroundings and thoughtful amenities, Vila Shangri-La helps elevate your family time into something truly meaningful. ??? Making Every Day Effortless Sometimes, the greatest luxury is simplicity—and Villa Sousa in Carvoeiro, Algarve brings it in spades. This charming, traditional-style villa offers ample space and an unbeatable location, putting local shops, restaurants, and sandy beaches all within easy reach. Spend your days sunbathing, wandering coastal trails, or sipping something chilled in a beachfront café. Then return to your villa haven where you can rest, recharge, and get ready to do it all again—on your terms, at your pace. Your Next Family Story Starts Here A villa holiday isn’t just a change of scenery—it’s a chance to pause, breathe, and be together in a space that feels like it was made just for you. Travelling with Children: Tips, Tricks, and What to Avoid

05 March 2025

Travelling with Children: Tips, Tricks, and What to Avoid Last summer was the first time I travelled with three kids—one of whom was under one. Before that, I had only ever travelled with one child, so this was a big jump! As much as I love travelling and taking the kids to new places, sometimes the journey (and planning the journey) can be so stressful that you start to wonder why you bother. To help make family travel smoother, I’ve put together this short article packed with tips, tricks, and things to avoid when travelling with kids. Short-Haul vs. Long-Haul Travel: What to Expect Short-Haul Travel (Under 4 Hours) Short-haul trips, whether by plane, car, or train, can be easier to manage but still require planning. Since travel time is shorter, focus on keeping kids comfortable and entertained for a few hours. Long-Haul Travel (4+ Hours) Long-haul flights and road trips require more preparation. Expect sleep disruptions, potential meltdowns, and the need for strategic entertainment. The longer the trip, the more crucial it is to pack wisely and plan for rest breaks. Top Tips for Travelling with Children 1. Plan Ahead Book flights and accommodation with family-friendly options (e.g., bulkhead seats, hotels with kid-friendly amenities). Choose flight times that align with your child’s sleep schedule. Check travel regulations, including passport requirements and airline policies for kids. 2. Pack Smart Carry a mix of healthy snacks to avoid hunger-related tantrums. Bring a change of clothes for everyone (accidents happen!). Pack familiar comfort items like blankets, stuffed animals, or a favourite toy. 3. Keep Kids Entertained Download games, movies, and audiobooks in advance. Bring travel-friendly toys like sticker books, small puzzles, or colouring kits. Play simple verbal games such as “I Spy” to pass the time. 4. Prepare for Sleep Bring a travel pillow, blanket, and sleep mask to create a cosy environment. Stick to bedtime routines as much as possible, even in transit. If on a plane, use a footrest or inflatable cushion to make sleeping more comfortable. 5. Be Strategic with Seating On planes, request bulkhead seats or choose an aisle seat for easy access. If travelling by car, ensure the car seat is comfortable for long drives. On trains, opt for family compartments if available. 6. Manage Expectations and Be Flexible Set realistic expectations – delays and hiccups happen. Be open to adjusting plans based on your child's needs. Maintain a sense of humour and enjoy the journey! What to Avoid When Travelling with Kids 1. Overpacking Avoid bringing too many unnecessary items. Stick to essentials and multi-use items. A lightweight stroller or baby carrier is more practical than a bulky pram. 2. Relying Solely on In-Flight Entertainment Airlines may not always provide working screens or child-friendly content. Always have a backup of movies, games, and books. 3. Ignoring Time Zone Adjustments If travelling across time zones, gradually adjust sleep schedules before departure. Try to expose kids to natural light upon arrival to reset their internal clocks. 4. Skipping Breaks on Long Journeys If driving, schedule stops every 2-3 hours to let kids stretch and burn off energy. On flights, encourage them to walk up and down the aisle when safe. 5. Forgetting Snacks and Hydration Avoid relying on airline food – bring healthy, non-messy snacks. Keep kids hydrated, but monitor their intake before flights to avoid frequent bathroom trips. 6. Expecting Perfection Kids will get cranky, tired, and restless. Stay patient and adaptable. Focus on the fun memories rather than aiming for a perfect trip. Final Thoughts Travelling with children requires extra effort, but with the right preparation, it can be an incredible experience for the whole family. Whether short-haul or long-haul, the key is to stay organised, flexible, and calm. Every trip is an opportunity to create lifelong memories – so embrace the adventure and enjoy the ride!

The best time to travel to Japan

17 February 2025

It's no secret that a big attraction for Japan is the cherry blossom season during spring, but other opportunities include vibrant foliage in the autumn and incredible skiing in the winter. Not forgetting the abundance of festivals and celebrations in the summer. Choosing the best time to travel to Japan can be difficult, as the country has so much to offer. When planning any trip to Japan, it is always important to consider national holidays which are the busiest times for residents. These include Golden Week towards the end of April and into May, Obon (in mid-August or mid-July depending on the area) and Japanese New Year (Shogatsu). January -Ski northern Japan January is perfect for skiing in northern Japan due to the expected heavy snowfall. Resorts like Hokkaido tend to be much quieter than others, meaning peaceful slopes for amazing adventures. April -Cherry blossom season Peak time for cherry blossom season, bringing a magical experience across the mainland. Crowds will be busy during this time and hotel prices higher than usual, but the views are well worth the expense. Early booking is highly advised. June – See vibrant gardens The start of rainy season, but with that comes vibrant and luscious gardens, making Japan particularly beautiful. A signature of traditional Japanese culture, these gardens can be found across the country. July- Hike Mount Fuji July marks the official start to climbing season, as the weather gets drier and cooler. Hiking Mount Fuji in July also means quieter trails, as the Obon Festival (which falls mid-August) often brings big crowds during the public holidays. September - Beat the crowds Travelling to Japan in September usually means less domestic travel, as schools return. Not only does this mean fewer crowds, but prices can be cheaper too. If visiting Osaka in September, there’s also chance to experience Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri, one of Japan’s most traditional festivals. November -See Tokyo Clear skies and cooler weather make November the perfect time to experience Tokyo. With less crowds at this time of the year, visitors can also enjoy travelling around the city with relative ease. During autumn, Tokyo’s outdoor attractions like gardens and temples are transformed with golden foliage and crimson trees. Travelling to Tokyo in November also means an opportunity to witness one of the city's main sumo tournaments, which only take place six times a year.
