Lapland adventure

My Lapland adventure. Karesuando, Finland I stayed at the Davvi Arctic Lodge which offers an authentic Lapland vibe, with rustic charm with modern comforts. It has a lovely restaurant that feels really comfortable and the food is lovely. The views are stunning of the snow-covered landscapes stretching into Swedish Lapland and makes it a perfect place to relax. The bar is attached to the restaurant and plenty to offer for a night cap or a coffee to warm up. Thankfully the trip I had booked gave us all the essential gear such as thermal suits and snow boots. I packed plenty of thermals, thick socks, snood, scarf, thermal gloves, head torch and plenty of hand warmers. Temperatures can be -10 to even -30 so dressing appropriate is a must. The hotel is located right on a forest and is lovely and peaceful. You can walk across the boarder to Sweden and visit a local church or stop off for a hot chocolate at the local souvenir shop. Or hire a toboggan from the reception and play on the snowy hills. We walked the toboggan to the local shop and stocked up on fire wood, drinks, marshmallows for toasting and walked to the top of the hill at night time and lit a fire and waited to watch the northern lights. I had the most fabulous experience on a husky sledding adventure. Guests at Davvi Arctic Lodge have the opportunity to mush their own team of eager huskies through pristine snow trails, surrounded by the beauty of Lapland’s wilderness. The dogs were very friendly and enjoyed a cuddle after they had taken us for a run. This was one of the most awesome experiences I have ever done, it’s a snowy magical place and not a human in sight, just nature, honestly its amazing. You need plenty of layers on for this experience and hand warmers down your snow books and gloves are a must. For those seeking a faster-paced thrill, the lodge offers snowmobile safaris that traverse frozen lakes and dense forests. One of the highlights is the night-time snowmobile safari, where we wind through forest wilderness before zipping down a frozen river into an open area, perfect for witnessing the Northern Lights. The combination of adrenaline and the chance to see the aurora borealis was amazing. I visited a local reindeer farms which was great to get to learn about the deep-rooted traditions of reindeer herding. The reindeer ride offers a peaceful journey through snowy terrains, providing insight into the harmonious relationship between the Sami people and these majestic animals. Beyond these adventures, the lodge provides a range of activities to enrich your stay. Snowshoe walks allow for exploration of untouched snowfields, while forest trail walks offer opportunities to spot local wildlife. The guide was very knowledgeable and I would recommend booking this trip to learn more about the area. Its not for the faint hearted and is quite hard to walk in the snowshoes but great fun once you get the hang for it. Overall my tip to Lapland was EPIC, I cannot wait to return.
