Weekend Break in Lille

Weekend Break in pretty Lille When we think of jumping on the Eurostar to get across the channel for a weekend break, most of us think of reaching Paris or Brussels with Lille being hugely ignored! Well I did anyway, until last year when I wanted to grab a couple of nights away with my husband and decided to find out more about about this much overlooked destination. With just a 1 hour 22 minute journey out of St Pancras, Lille is very quick and easy to reach. The Eurostar takes you literally 10 minutes walk from the very centre. Lille is very pretty, typically French with a beautiful square(s), old buildings, cobbled windy streets to roam and get lost in and plenty of restaurants serving delightful French cuisine (welsh rarebit and mussels seemed to feature everywhere!) and some lovely small bistros and bakeries. There is a huge Westfield shopping centre right in the town centre, opposite the Eurostar Terminal and hotels are very well priced in comparison to Paris. My verdict – definitely worth a visit for a night or maximum 2 nights!
