Domes Lake Algarve, Vilamoura
I had a wonderful 5 night break in early May in Vilamoura, Portugal.
We stayed at the 5 star Domes Lake Algarve.
I can highly recommend this property, the food was incredible, you couldn't eat unhealthy if you tried, there is a lot of thought and love gone into the food. There was so much amazing choice at each meal.
The staff could not do enough for you and the facilities plus the location was excellent.
They have a lovely spa area with 3 types of saunas and two types of jacuzzi's plus hydrotherapy pool and chill out area, you get an hour free during your stay.
There are two fitness centres, one is indoors and 1 is a small area outside overlooking the lake, which is a great setting.
They do early morning Yoga classes overlooking the lake as well.
You can do kayaking, stand up paddle boarding in the lake as well.
They have an adults only area with a pool and food vans which is a nice touch as well.
Lakeside dining at Makris - great food with a lovely lakeside view.
You can have pitch and putt golf lessons on site and there are rare birds in their own gardens.
You can also use the complimentary bikes that the hotel provide for as long as you like, the area is very flat and there is a lovely promenade that you can cycle along around the hotel.
With the Marina to the left of the property and the beach (voted within the top 25 beaches in the world and I can see why) to the right, everything is just a few minutes walk away.
From the marina you can book boat/catamaran trips, fast or slow. We did both and the fast boat where we went to search for Dolphins (unfortunately we didnt see any) was worth the money alone for the thrill factor.
The weather was glorious for the time we were there and the crowds are low in May so its a great time to visit.
There are 6 golf courses in the area so there is a lot of choice for a golf break and you see many groups of golfers around the Marina at night.
Personally I would say that families would visit during the day and the groups come out at night. It would be extremely busy in August but May, June, September or October would see nice warm weather but less crowds.
With a 2.5 hour flight from Gatwick, it is ideal for a weekend break or longer to feel the lovely sunshine.
