A Pleasant Surprise: My Experience Aboard Ambassador Ambition

Embarkation in Liverpool was stress-free, with plenty of welcoming staff on hand to make the process easy. Alongside over 20 fellow Travel Counsellors, we toured the ship’s key areas, including restaurants, bars, the gym, and public lounges. Despite its smaller size, the Ambition felt spacious and well designed. The relaxed atmosphere, free from the crowds often found on larger ships, was a welcome change.

A special mention must go to our wonderful hosts, Lou Jade and Laura, who truly elevated the experience. It was heart warming to see how many customers onboard recognised them . Despite being busy looking after us, they were always on hand to offer the same help, and expertise to guests across the ship. Their professionalism and energy were the same as the rest of the staff, who were without exception friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout the cruise.

Dining

The dining offerings onboard were impressive: • Buckingham Restaurant – Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. • Holyrood Restaurant – Open for dinner, offering a more refined dining experience. • Borough Market – A casual buffet-style venue open for all meals, featuring a variety of global cuisine. • Saffron – An Indian fusion restaurant with a £16.95 cover charge. I loved the butter chicken and the thoughtful presentation. • Lupino’s – A Mediterranean specialty restaurant with a £14.95 cover charge, offering meze-style starters, main dishes, and desserts. • Chef’s Table – A VIP multi-course dining experience with wine pairings, priced at £89 per person.

During my stay, I dined at both Saffron and the Holyrood Restaurant. The butter chicken curry at Saffron was a standout, while the roast beef and baked Alaska at Holyrood ranked among the best meals I’ve had at sea.

Wellness and Relaxation

The Green Sea Spa offers a serene space overlooking the ocean, with individual treatment rooms, a fully equipped sauna, and a steam room. The spa provides a range of treatments — from massages to facials and nail services — all competitively priced compared to other cruise lines. For example, a 90-minute massage is £139.

The gym exceeded expectations, with modern equipment and ample space. Starting each day with a workout followed by a visit to the spa’s ocean view relaxation room was a perfect morning ritual.

Entertainment and Activities

A highlight was attending a murder mystery show in the theatre. It was an engaging, interactive performance that had the entire audience involved.

Disembarkation and Final Thoughts

Disembarkation in Bristol was so easy. After enjoying a hearty full English breakfast, I was off the ship and onto the shuttle bus in just 15 minutes.

Reflecting on the journey, Ambassador Ambition offers a relaxed cruising experience that is particularly well suited to mature travellers. From the thoughtfully designed spaces and excellent dining to the attentive service and top-notch entertainment, the ship exceeded my expectations.
