Greener Journeys Ahead: My Path as a TTG Sustainable Travel Hero
Sustainability is not just something I focus on at work; it matters to me personally. From choosing ethical suppliers at home, such as Smol and Oddbox, to reducing single-use plastics and offering paper-free itineraries through the MyTC app, I try to make thoughtful choices every day. These steps may seem small, but they are part of a wider commitment to live and work in a more responsible way.
That said, I am also aware of the challenges. I run a travel business, which by its nature involves flights, accommodation and logistics that impact the environment. It is something I reflect on often. Being recognised through this programme is not about claiming to have all the answers; it is about being on a journey to learn, improve and guide others to do the same.
What is the Sustainable Travel Heroes Programme? TTG’s Sustainable Travel Heroes is a year-long initiative that brings together 20 individuals from across the UK travel industry. We will receive training, connect with like-minded professionals, and collaborate with key partners who are leading the way in sustainable tourism. It is a chance to grow, share knowledge and influence positive change from within.
Working With Industry Leaders in Sustainable Travel One of the most valuable aspects of this programme is learning directly from suppliers who are taking sustainability seriously, not just in theory but in practice.
- EasyJet is actively working towards net zero emissions, investing in hydrogen-powered aircraft, more efficient operations and transparent carbon reporting. They are taking practical steps to help reshape short-haul aviation. - Iberostar is particularly impressive in the hotel space. They have committed to being waste-free and carbon neutral by 2030, with tangible projects that include coral reef restoration and the complete removal of single-use plastics from their properties. Their approach to circular economy thinking is forward-looking and effective. - Intrepid is widely recognised as a pioneer in responsible travel. As a certified B Corp, they offer carbon-neutral small group adventures that focus on community benefit, cultural respect and environmental stewardship. Their itineraries show that sustainability and authentic experience go hand in hand. - The Greek Tourism Board is also doing important work. By promoting lesser-known destinations, supporting sustainable accommodation, and prioritising heritage preservation, they are helping ensure that tourism in Greece remains a long-term asset rather than a short-term gain.
Why This Matters to Me and to My Clients I believe sustainable travel is not about saying no to the world, it is about saying yes in a more meaningful way. You can still enjoy a luxury honeymoon in the Maldives, a safari in Kenya or a cruise to Antarctica, but by making informed choices about how you travel and who you travel with, you can reduce your impact and contribute more positively to the places you visit.
Over the next year, I will be applying what I learn through this programme to help my clients travel more thoughtfully, whether that is by choosing properties that give back, reducing unnecessary flights, or understanding how to offset emissions properly.
Travel has the power to change us; our responsibility is to ensure it does not harm the places that make it so magical in the first place.
Let Us Plan Something Remarkable and Responsible If you are planning a special trip, whether it is a honeymoon, big birthday or once-in-a-lifetime adventure, I would love to help you plan something that is memorable, personal and aligned with your values.
I work one-to-one with my clients, offering completely bespoke service and access to some of the most trusted names in the industry. Together, we can create a journey that is not only unforgettable but also contributes to a better way of exploring the world.
