Day 2 - Colombo to Sigiriya

After breakfast at The Kingsbury Colombo, it was time to say goodbye to this beautiful hotel. The Kingsbury has a lovely classic feel to it, with brilliant service. It is definitely one I’d suggest to my customers for a stay in Colombo.

We then set off on our journey towards Sigiriya, a four hour transfer with a stop for lunch at Lora Café. The food here was brilliant with a superb choice for everyone. Some of the group tried local Sri Lankan dishes while others went for club sandwiches, pizza or a burger. Plenty of variety and a great place to recharge.

On arrival, we checked into the Aliya Resort and Spa, our home for the night. This 4 star hotel sits right in the heart of Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle, surrounded by greenery with stunning views of Sigiriya Rock. Spacious rooms, a calm setting and a really welcoming atmosphere make it a brilliant base for exploring this part of the country . We soon established that lighting the candles to welcome us would be a common theme at all the hotels

The afternoon was one to remember with a jeep safari into Minneriya Wildlife Sanctuary. The park is well known for its wild elephants, and we were lucky enough to see herds of them up close in their natural home and Crocodiles too, so many Monkeys and Birds of all different types. Travelling through the park in a 4x4 with a naturalist made the whole experience even more special. Our guides who were with us all week were absolutely superb this day as well. Sending all the photos home and hearing peoples excitement really confirmed that my customers will love it here

Dinner was at the Amba Yaalu Hotel, where I enjoyed mango chicken with salad, a tasty beef broth, chicken nasi goreng, and finished with fruit salad and ice cream. A brilliant meal to round off the day before returning to the Aliya Resort and Spa for the night. but before that a quick tour of the hotel and i have to say i was really impressed but more on the hotels another day.

A day full of beautiful scenery, brilliant wildlife and great food. Sri Lanka just keeps getting better.
