Eleven Hotel Sukhumvit Soi 11, Bangkok, Thailand

The Eleven Hotel Bangkok Sukhumvit Soi 11 is a hotel I send clients to regularly, and in particular, families.

This is because the hotel has an excellent room category which is the Bunk Bed Family Room.

This is a Superior Double Room which includes another small bunk bed room accessed by a sliding door.

The bunk beds are a good size and are in a ‘L’ shape configuration, so NOT baby bunks and NOT one on top of the other. The ladder to the top bunk is also a good size.

This gives families the opportunity to have everyone close, and in one room, whilst also having the option to shut the sliding door and have some privacy or watch TV whilst allowing children to sleep or enjoy their own privacy.

There is also the option to have connecting rooms, where you would have a Deluxe Double Room connecting with a Deluxe Twin Room.

The 9th floor of the hotel is the location for the Rooftop Bar as well as the Restaurant which is used for breakfast and meals throughout the day and evening, if required.

Also on the 9th Floor is the Swimming Pool and Gym.

The Eleven Hotel Bangkok Sukhumvit Soi 11 is on Soi (or side street) 11 which branches off from Sukhumvit Road, which actually extends for hundreds of miles.

On Soi 11 you will find a lot of places close at hand which include about 3 7Eleven shops (similar to Spar Shops), quite a few bars and restaurants, including a really good multi-screen Sports Bar and a Burger King.

Soi 11 is about 300m long, so if you walk to the end of the Soi, you will then be on Sukhumvit Road

If you turn right on Sukhumvit Road, there is the Nana BTS Skytrain Station only a few steps away. The Skytrain is actually above the road, so this allows you to travel around Bangkok to see the sights, whilst also having views above , below and to the sides.

Only 3 stops on the Skytrain from Nana is a station called Siam. If you get off here, you can go into a shopping mall called Siam Paragon. On the ground floor is Bangkok Sea Life but about 4 floors up is a food floor. There is a fabulous supermarket here which sells lots of amazing food and I liken it to Burrough Market in London.

Also on this floor is a vast array of restaurants and food outlets with stunning quality and choice. If you are unsure what Thai food you like or want to be tempted by something, then this is a wonderful place to go.

Another option if you have an appetite for food from home, is across the road from the Nana Skytrain Station. Here is a hotel called the Landmark, where in the basement, they have a British Pub called The Huntsman which serves Pints and British Pub Food.

When coming from Soi 11 on to Sukhumvit Road, if you turn left, after about a 10-minute stroll, you will pass Robinson Department Store and then come to a shopping mall called Terminal 21.

Terminal 21 is designed with an airport theme, so different floors and areas have the name of major destinations, e.g. London, New York, Tokyo, Sydney etc, so you will find outlets and products representing those destinations.

If you need a Thai Sim card for your phone calls and Wi-Fi, you can get these at the 7Elevens, but I would NOT recommend it. Instead, head to the top floor at Terminal 21 and you will see a store called AIS. This company (also available at the airport) is the best and will offer you a much better package and quality service, rather than having someone at the ‘Spar Shop’ messing around with your precious phone!

Also at Terminal 21 you will find the Asok BTS Skytrain Station above ground, but then below ground you will find the Asok MRT Station.

The MRT or Underground is relatively new to Bangkok, but it is easy to use and the staff at the ticket offices do speak English. I have travelled around on the MRT quite a lot and it reminded me of the Singapore MRT when I used that in the late 80s.

It provides easy access to the city and the tourist sites and you can combine the MRT with the Skytrain and the River Taxis and Ferries.

The Sukhumvit Road area allows you to have a lot of options close by and is a good alternative if you don’t particularly need river views.
