3 nights in Budapest
we travelled for 3 nights for a city break to Budapest . What a beautiful city it exceeded our expectations.
We booked the tour bus as this is always a good way of getting your bearings in a city . When we were there in January we had beautiful sunny weather with snow on the ground.
The city is made up out of two areas divided by the river Danube . Buda were you will find a magnificent castle with beautiful grounds and fantastic views over the Pest side of Budapest It is like stepping back to medieval times with cobbled streets and many medieval buildings there are some hotels in this area but not so many . Most people will stay on the Pest side there are a whole range of hotels . We stayed in the Crown Plaza hotel which was in a great location with a fantastic breakfast and the staff were very helpful. The pest side has a very lively atmosphere with many bars and great restaurants . You will find the beautiful parliament building which is well worth a visit. It is right on the river in a great location. The Andrassy avenue area is a world heritage side with very nice boutiques and many great cafes. Also a must is going on a Danube cruise . You have many options for different cruises either in the day time, night time, dinner cruises etc. Also a must visit is visiting a thermal bath a very popular one is Széchenyi Baths, which is very big we did visit that one . We did go on a Sunday and it was extremely busy . I would probably advise to visit the thermal baths during the week . There are also some smaller thermal baths which might be a good alternative. The Jewish quarter is also well worth a visit do included the synagogue.
All in all a fantastic city break and the prices are still very reasonable . They dont really use the euro , everything is priced in Hungarian forints.
