A tour through , Doha Sri Lanka and finishing with Beautiful Maldives
What a trip... We left from Edinburgh to fly directly to Doha , stayed two nights in Doha . Doha is an interesting city and growing all the time . The must see in Doha is the National museum of Qatar. It is a beautiful building and telling you the whole history of Qatar. It was extremely hot in Doha but everything has air-conditioning. The main souq Waqif is well worth a visit. Doha is good place to stopover for a couple of nights. Next Sri Lanka. what a great country. We started in Colombo a big city did not spend too much time there . Our private guide picked us up from the hotel and we made a journey of approx 3 hours to our first destination Dambulla and stayed for 3 nights in the Amaya lake resort.. We visited Sigiriya rock a must see when you come to Sri Lanka, a traditional sri lankan village and an elephant safari in Dambulla saw a lot of elephants. You will also experience elephants walking along the roadside. The next day we visited the Unesco world heritage side of Polonnaruwa most interesting we cycled around the ancient side which was fun. The next stop was Kandy the 2nd largest city in Sri Lanka , where we visited the most sacred place for Buddhist. The temple of the sacred tooth Relic, also attended a traditional Sri Lankan dance performance. We travelled from Kandy to the "highlands of Sri Lanka " to Nura Eliya via visiting a tea plantation . It was a lot colder in Nura Eliya around 18 degrees ! The main attraction is to visit and hike in the Horton Plain national park. We did a 10km hike around the National park early in the morning started at 0600am . After the highlands we were taken to the train station to travel on a local train to Ella, this took around 3 hours and is a great way to see local life in Sri Lanka. Upon arrival we were taken to a beautiful hotel called 98 acres with spectacular views. We visited Nine Arches bridge which looked very much like the Glenfinnan bridge in the west highlands in Scotland. From Ella we travelled to Yala were we did another fantastic safari with lots of wildlife , we saw Elephants , crocodiles, wild boars . wild water buffaloes . Unfortunately we did not see leopards. There are approx 800 leopards left in the wild in Sri Lanka. the next couple of nights we stayed in Galle, Galle is famous for the Galle fort which is a world heritage side which was build by European occupiers. We did a guide walking tour. We were nearing coming to our end in Sri Lanka . We spend the last night in Negombo a beach resort near the main airport.
From Sri Lanka we travelled to the Maldives which was only 1 hour flying time. From Male airport we got a sea plane transfer to our resort which tool around 40 minutes . It is beautiful in the Maldives a true paradise, after the travelling around sri lanka it is an ideal destination to have 3 or 4 nights to relax. All in all a fantastic holiday.
