Beautiful Corfu
I've been to Corfu a few times now, and each time it amazes me how beautiful and captivating an island Corfu is!
This time we returned with a few friends, and started with a villa, rented through one of our villa partners, Vintage Travel.
The villa was situated on the West side, in Chalikounas which is only a 10 to 15 minute drive to one of my favourite areas of Corfu, Messonghi.
We loved the villa and the pool especially, which most of us were in from 9 am to around 8 pm!
Messonghi is one of my favourite locations in Corfu and as it was a short drive away we went there a couple of times to revisit some of our favourite tavernas.
We also managed to sneak in a visit to Aquadventure, a massive water park near Corfu Town.
Having a car made all the difference at the villa as it meant we could explore the island - something we'd not done much of on previous visits due to lack of transport!
We then spent the next three nights at a wonderful all inclusive hotel called Grecotel Daphnila Bay Dassia: https://www.grecotel.com/luxme-daphnilabay/
The all inclusive concept is brilliant with loads of a la carte options for the evenings and two lovely restaurants for lunch, plus a creperie and ice cream place which the kids loved!
There is even a dinearound option included at a lovely location which is used as a film set for many tv shows and films.
Cocktails and drinks are good quality and the hotel is stunning, set in a gorgeous bay.
There is an external water sports centre too which costs extra but definitely worth it for their high quality offerings! The kids even went jet skiing while I relaxed with a cocktail!
We spent the last 5 nights at Domes of Corfu: https://www.marriott.com/en-us/hotels/cfuak-domes-of-corfu-autograph-collection/overview/
This was a very different hotel to Grecotel, with the emphasis on very good food and stylish accommodation.
I loved both hotels but the friendliness of the Grecotel staff won me over, and I think I slightly preferred that hotel to Domes.
My husband however preferred Domes and I have to say both hotels were superb.
We stayed on a dinearound half board basis at Domes and also had access to the Haute Living lounge. Our stay included an outstanding buffet as well as two dinners at the a la carte as well as one at the weekly pop up, so I felt we had a chance to try everything. The a la carte restaurants, Meze and Yausai were amazing - in fact all the food was top notch. This is definitely a hotel for foodies.
The Haute Living lounge gave us access to snacks and alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks from 10am to 11pm so a great place to sit and escape the sun or have pre/post dinner drinks.
The family room was spacious and the beach is amazing. This is the place to come if you want a sandy long beach, which is rare in Corfu.
The sunsets over the coast here are some of the best I’ve ever seen in Europe, with the sun putting on a dazzling display each evening.
There are a few tavernas walking distance away and the town of Pelekas is 10 mins or so by taxi. The views from the Kaisers Throne in Pelekas are amazing and worth a day out. Loads of amazing lunch options in this town too.
All in all Domes really is faultless.. just maybe missing a bit of the Corfu warmth that Grecotel offered! But… nothing that would stop me returning.
As I described it to my husband. Grecotel Daphnila Bay is a little like a slightly older but beautiful aunt who loves hugs as opposed to a cooler, more trendy slightly aloof aunt who shows love with her cooking!
We loved our 3 centre trip to Corfu, and as always I am looking forward to visiting wonderful Corfu again soon.
Please contact me if you would like to have a holiday like this one - I always prefer multi stops as you may have noticed from my blogs!
