Gold Trip to Sri Lanka

This may have been my favourite Gold trip to date! We were hosted by our DMC, Colombus Tours, who many of you know of as we use them as our people on the ground in Sri Lanka for our tailor made trips. I was blown away by their staff, their ethos and how well Bobby and her team looked after us. The hotels that hosted us and our head office and supplier partners also made this amazing trip possible, and I can’t thank them enough. We travelled on Sri Lankan Airlines, a one world partner and not bad at all, and made use of the Cathay Lounge in terminal 3. The food on board was delicious and quite spicy, setting the scene for food in general in Sri Lanka. Spicy and delicious is the way to describe the cuisine! We stayed one night in Colombo at Tintagel, the perfect boutique property located centrally in the city. The rooms were all gorgeous and it has a lovely pool and restaurant too. Breakfast at this hotel was out of this world, I was introduced to Hopppers, which are now my favourite breakfast item! Rice pancakes, filled in this case with eggs and served with a delicious curry and a million chutneys! On our first night in Sri Lanka, we were treated to a ‘food coma’ tour which took us to around 7 bars and restaurants, where we sampled everything from Arrack to various local delicacies! We then had 4 nights at the wonderful Cape Weligama, a luxurious Relais & Chateaux property close to Galle, but surrounded by lush vegetation and the sea. We ended up with a huge villa each which was lovely - each set of villas have a pool shared by two other villas. A perfect set up for families or friends. While at Weligama we visited Galle one night and spent a day at Yala national park another day. Galle is colonial and beautiful with the old fort and gorgeous little streets. Yala speaks for itself, we saw elephants, wild boar, so many birds and peacocks, crocodiles, buffalo’s and even leopards. It really was an unforgettable experience. I’ve been to Sri Lanka once before and this experience made me want to return many more times. It's a country of smiles that you won't be able to resist falling in love with!
