Experiencing the Qatar Grand Prix: Formula 1 in Doha

In November 2024, I had the chance to experience the Qatar Grand Prix, one of the most exciting events on the Formula 1 calendar. Set against the stunning backdrop of Doha, the race combined high-octane action with world-class hospitality — and it’s safe to say the whole weekend was unforgettable.

Staying in Style – The W Hotel Doha Doha is known for its luxury hotels, and many of them pulled out all the stops for the Grand Prix. I stayed at the W Hotel Doha, and it did not disappoint. The lobby featured a striking Formula 1 car made entirely of plants, setting the tone for a weekend dedicated to racing. The hotel was buzzing with energy thanks to exclusive after-parties, sleek design, and the signature W atmosphere — the perfect base for a Formula 1 weekend.

Getting Around Doha for the Grand Prix One of the things that really impressed me was how seamless it was to get around. Whether by Uber or the Doha Metro, everything was incredibly well organised.

With Formula 1 tickets, we were given complimentary metro passes for the weekend. The metro itself is spotless (honestly, unbelievably clean!) and efficient. It takes you straight to Lusail, where free shuttle buses whisk fans to the circuit. The whole process is smooth and stress-free, meaning you can focus on the racing rather than worrying about logistics.

Inside the Lusail International Circuit Arriving at the Lusail International Circuit is an experience in itself. As well as the main track, there’s so much happening around the venue.

F1 Village – Packed with official merchandise shops, interactive experiences, displays of classic cars, and plenty of food and drink stalls. Entertainment – A stage hosts live music and DJs, keeping the atmosphere electric throughout the weekend. Grandstands – Choosing the right seat is key. I’d recommend the Main Grandstand, which offers unbeatable views of the start line and pit lane. We sat here and it was incredible — watching cars roar off the grid, witnessing pit stops up close, and feeling the energy of the race from the very heart of the action.

The organisers have also thought of everything. Commentary is broadcast around the stands, so even if you miss something visually, you’ll still know what’s happening. Plus, giant screens show every twist and turn across the track.

Post-Race Celebrations Once the chequered flag drops, the experience doesn’t end. After the race, we simply reversed the process — shuttle buses back to the metro, and before we knew it, we were back in the city. The organisation was excellent, and queues were surprisingly minimal.

The closing night fireworks show lit up the Doha sky in spectacular fashion, followed by a headline performance from Maroon 5, which capped off the weekend perfectly.

Final Thoughts The Qatar Grand Prix is more than just a race — it’s a world-class event that blends sport, culture, and entertainment seamlessly. From the buzzing atmosphere of Doha’s luxury hotels to the ease of transport, the incredible F1 Village, and the unforgettable trackside action, everything about the weekend was brilliantly executed.

If you’re considering attending a Formula 1 race abroad, I can’t recommend the Qatar Grand Prix enough. Whether you’re a lifelong F1 fan or just want to soak up the excitement of a global sporting event, Doha delivers an unforgettable experience from start to finish.
