Istanbul in Three Nights: A Girls’ Trip to Remember

I’ve just returned from a whirlwind three-night trip to Istanbul, and I’m already itching to go back. It’s been on my bucket list for years—ever since I watched Liam Neeson in Taken 2, actually—and this vibrant, chaotic, and totally captivating city did not disappoint.

There were four of us (a great mix of travel-loving friends), but honestly, Istanbul has something for everyone—romance for couples, history and culture for families, and endless energy and atmosphere for groups of friends. It’s one of those rare destinations that truly ticks all the boxes. We flew in with EasyJet and arrived mid-afternoon, heading straight to our hotel just a short stroll from the iconic Blue Mosque. Staying in the Old Town was such a great call—so many of the city’s main sights were walkable, and the whole area has this rich, historic charm that instantly makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another world. Over our three days, we managed to fit in loads—without ever feeling rushed: • We explored the Blue Mosque and the Basilica Cistern—both breathtaking and steeped in history. You can’t help but feel a little awestruck standing in spaces that old and beautiful. • A sunset cruise on the Bosphorus gave us a whole new perspective on the city—gliding between Europe and Asia as day turned to night. The weather wasn’t quite on our side this time, but on a clear evening, the sunset views would be absolutely stunning. We were entertained throughout with whirling dervishes, belly dancers, and live music, and enjoyed great food and genuinely warm service. It was a memorable evening that brought together Istanbul’s history, culture, and vibrant energy in such a unique way. • We browsed (and bartered!) our way through the Grand Bazaar—a sensory overload in the best way. Lanterns, scarves, spices, jewellery… it’s basically impossible to walk out empty-handed.

...and of course, we made time for rooftop cocktails—because when your skyline includes minarets, palaces, and the Bosphorus, you’d be mad not to.

But the absolute highlight? Without a doubt, the Hurrem Sultan Hammam. Picture warm marble slabs, steam rooms, and the most heavenly full-body scrub and massage I’ve ever had. It was indulgent, a bit hilarious (especially at the start!), and so, so relaxing. We floated out of there with glowing skin and zero stress.

We could have stayed so much longer, but it gave us the perfect introduction to Istanbul
