Discover wildlife in Nairobi

Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, is a modern city with glittering skyscrapers – but wildlife experiences are on the doorstep if you want to add them at extra cost. The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is a must-visit, where baby orphaned elephants are hand-reared in preparation for release back into the wild. Alternatively, visit the Giraffe Centre to feed rescued Rothschild’s giraffes and learn more about the conservation and education work that goes on at the centre.

Explore the diverse landscapes of Meru

Meru National Park is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parks in Kenya, and with just two lodges within it, you’ll have it practically to yourself. This rugged landscape comprises thick jungle, semi-arid plains with baobab trees, and grasslands spotted with termite mounds. Its rivers and swamplands are a home for wallowing hippos. Absorb this diverse scenery on an evening game drive and toast your safari with a sundowner in the bush.

Learn about conservation at Loisaba

Take your pick of safari experiences at Loisaba Conservancy. Ride horses through the bush or on a guided trek at sunset. Enjoy a game drive or take the adrenaline up a notch during a walking safari with a traditional Samburu guide. The camp also allows guests to see how the rangers protect wildlife with an anti-poaching demonstration by the sniffer dog team. Afterwards, sink into the camp’s infinity pool and watch wildlife wallow in the waterhole below.

See the wildlife of the Masai Mara

Take a full-day drive into the Mara and glimpse lions dozing in the sunshine and herds of elephants lumbering through the bush. You might even be lucky enough to spot a leopard or cheetah. When you feel peckish, stop for a picnic hamper lunch and later meet locals at a Masai village. Stay between July and November, and you’ll be in the thick of the action, as over 1.3 million wildebeest and zebras migrate across the vast plains.

Dine under the stars in the Masai Mara

Stroll out of your tent as the sun begins to set and make your way to the camp’s designated dining area. Choose between a candlelit table inside or sitting outside on the decking with the sound of the Sand River nearby. Your waiter will serve a delicious selection of salads and baked treats while stars twinkle in the skies above. Afterwards, you’ll want to migrate to the campfire and sip G&Ts snuggled under blankets, listening to the sounds of the wild.
