Travel Counsellors’ charity challenges for Reuben’s Retreat

On 23rd June, our company came together in an extraordinary show of solidarity and effort to support Reuben's Retreat, our cherished charity partner. With 47 participants across various activities, we demonstrated not only our commitment to fitness and fun but also our dedication to a cause that touches the hearts of many.

Travel Counsellors’ charity challenges for Reuben’s Retreat

Reuben's Retreat was founded in memory of Reuben Michael Graham, who tragically passed away at the age of 23 months. This remarkable organisation is dedicated to providing a retreat in the countryside for families who have suffered the bereavement of a child or have a child with a life-threatening or life-limiting illness. Reuben's Retreat offers support, counselling, and a sanctuary for those navigating the most challenging times of their lives. By transforming a former hospital into a haven, the charity has created a space where families can find peace, build memories, and receive much-needed respite.

Below are some of the fundraising events that took place on 23rd June:

Walking from Travel Counsellors HQ to Reuben's Retreat (23 miles)

15 dedicated walkers embarked on a challenging 23-mile journey from our headquarters in Manchester to Reuben's Retreat in Glossop. Organised by Kerry Latham, the route traversed picturesque countryside while the walkers' determination and camaraderie mirrored the supportive community that Reuben’s Retreat fosters.

Cycling the Cragg Challenge in Yorkshire

Elaine Simpson showcased her cycling prowess by conquering the eight-mile Cragg Vale Challenge, known for being the longest continuous ascent in England. Located in the scenic Yorkshire Dales, this route is a favourite among cyclists for its demanding incline and beautiful landscapes.

Trekking a 23-mile coastal route in South Wales

Jo Baldwin, Aaron Clarke, and their team of four walkers tackled a beautiful yet demanding 23-mile coastal path in South Wales. This scenic trek highlighted the enduring strength and solidarity required to support families through difficult times.

Abseiling in Bristol

Ten brave individuals, including Blanche Summers and Colette Walsh-Simpson, faced their fears and abseiled down the stunning Avon Gorge in Bristol. This iconic landmark, known for its breathtaking views and sheer cliffs, provided a thrilling backdrop for the participants.

Running 23 laps around Norwich City Football Club

Organised by Eliot Rouse, this challenge saw three energetic runners complete 23 laps each around Carrow Road, the home stadium of Norwich City Football Club, covering approximately six miles.

Braving the BA i360 tower

14 enthusiastic walkers took on the challenge of navigating around the BA i360 tower in Brighton in a daring feat organised by Claire Tavener. This unique tower, which offers panoramic views of the south coast, stands at 450 feet tall and is the world’s tallest moving observation tower.

Our collective efforts on 23rd June were more than just a series of physical challenges; they were a testament to our support for Reuben's Retreat and the vital work they do. But the journey doesn't end here. We need your help to continue supporting this incredible cause.
