Days 1–4: Kuala Lumpur

Your Malaysian journey begins in the metropolis of Kuala Lumpur. Start your mornings with local kopi (coffee) paired with roti canai at a street-side cafe, then set out to enjoy the city together. Spend your days exploring iconic landmarks like the soaring Petronas Towers, best viewed from the Skybridge for panoramic views of the city below. Climb the 272 rainbow-coloured steps to the Batu Caves, filled with Hindu shrines and mischievous monkeys.

Evenings are for tasting and the Jalan Alor Night Market is the ultimate spot for sampling char kway teow or satay skewers. For a taste of Malaysia’s past, head to Merdeka Square. Here, you’ll find historic landmarks such as the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, blending Moorish design with British colonial influences.

Days 4–8: Gaya Island

After the high-energy vibes of the city, touch down in Gaya Island in the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. A short boat ride from Kota Kinabalu, this island offers a retreat immersed in nature. Learn as a family about the vital conservation efforts at the Marine Ecology Centre, where you’ll gain insights into coral ecosystems and marine life protection. Beneath the waters, explore underwater gardens teeming with colourful fish and even the occasional reef shark.

Prefer to keep your feet on solid ground? You can hike through mangroves and rainforest paths, looking out for tropical birds. Finish your days with a culinary treat as Gaya Island’s resorts serve freshly caught seafood infused with Sabahan flavours.

Days 8–12: Langkawi

Your final stop is Langkawi, an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea, known for its tranquil beaches and striking landscapes.  Start your exploration with a ride on the Langkawi SkyCab, lifting you high above the island to the summit of Gunung Mat Cincang. From there, stroll onto the SkyBridge, a suspended walkway offering unparalleled views of the islands.

Take to the seas for island-hopping adventures, from the freshwater lake at Pulau Dayang Bunting to the animal sanctuary at Pulau Singa Besar, where wildlife roams freely. Unwind on the soft sands of Langkawi’s most popular beach, Pantai Cenang, or enjoy a seaside massage. Sip on fragrant teh tarik while sampling local dishes such as nasi lemak at beachfront eateries where the sounds of the waves never seem far away.
