Flying business class might seem like a luxury reserved for the few, but with a little strategy, it can be more accessible than you think. As a travel counsellor, I’ve helped many clients upgrade their travel experience without blowing their budget—and now I’m sharing my top tips with you!
1. Watch for Airline Sales
Most major airlines run business class promotions a few times a year. These sales can offer significant discounts—sometimes up to 50% off regular fares. The key is to be ready when they drop. I always share the best deals on my Instagram stories, so keep an eye out and act fast when you see one!
2. Look Out for Last-Minute Upgrade Offers
If the sale price is still out of reach, don’t worry. Many airlines offer discounted upgrade options around 48 hours before departure. You’ll usually receive an email or see the offer when you check in online. It’s a great way to snag a premium seat for a fraction of the original cost.
3. Ask at the Airport
Still haven’t upgraded? There’s no harm in asking at the check-in desk. If there are empty seats in business class, airlines may offer a reduced upgrade fee on the day of travel. It’s not guaranteed, but it’s always worth a polite ask!
4. Use Your Airline Points
Do you have a frequent flyer account? Even if you don’t fly often, you might have enough points saved up for an upgrade. Check your balance and see what your points can get you—you might be closer to business class than you think.
5. Set Realistic Expectations
Gone are the days of free upgrades just for dressing smart or asking nicely. But with a bit of planning and flexibility, you can still enjoy the perks of business class without paying full price.
