If a Nile Cruise isn’t on your bucket list then add it to it now! I was fortunate enough to have sailed for 7 nights with AMA Waterways to experience everything they and wonders of Ancient Egypt offers. The whole journey from arrival at Luxor airport, with assistance from collecting baggage and issuing of visas and through border control, every single excursion, and back through security for departure was absolutely seamless and stress free. Over the last 30 years of travel I have booked many clients for this journey, but this was my first experience. It was AMAZING! Each day we had the excursions included, and a planner was left in your cabin the night before with timings, where were visiting and a short explanation. The Egyptologist Guides accompanied us for the entire trip, and were fantastic. Their knowledge bought everything to life and the connections from Ancient Egypt through to life today was captivating. A short brief of the itinerary below: DAY 1 – ARRIVAL, TRANSFERS AND RELAX. Meet the crew, of which every member were fantastic. The service and hospitality exemplary. DAY 2 – VISIT THE VALLEY OF THE KINGS, AND THE TEMPLE OF HATSHEPSUT. The home the the tomb of Tutankhamen and the Tomb of King Seti. DAY 3 – THE CITY OF EDFU - Home to Egypts most preserved Temple – Dedicated to the Falcon Headed God Horus. Built in 230BC is the 2nd Largest Temple in Egypt. DAY 4 – ASWAN – Enjoy free time on board or take the optional excursion to Abu-Simbel. I took this excursion and WOW - Again absolutely seamless. I took the flight option – which is a around a 45 minute flight, over Lake Nasser 10 minute transfer from airport to the Temple. The Temple is around 3000 year old and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can take the journey by road, but it is a very long one! Flying it is definitely the way to go! DAY 5 - ASWAN-KOMOMBO AND EDFU - Meeting the Nubian people and visiting the also UNESCO designated Philae Temple Complex. Dedicated to the Goddess Isis. In the evening visiting the Temple of KomOmbo . DAY 6 – CRUISE BACK TO LUXOR, Sailing through the locks and the beautiful river you arrive back to then visit the Temple of Luxor. Constructed over hundreds of years by the Pharaohs Tutankhamun, Ramses II, and Amenhotep. DAY 7 - QENA - The temple of Hathor – The Goddess of Love. When we visiting the River was low, so we made the Journey by road. It was around 2 hour journey. Not a Negative at all as we got to see Modern day, working Egypt. The people , The Scenery, The Farming etc. Each evening there was entertainment onboard, from a Movie night, to Musicians, Belly Dancers and the Whirling Dirvish, All in All it was a fantastic experience and can highly recommend.
