Wrangell is one of Alaska’s oldest settlements, shaped by Indigenous Tlingit heritage and American pioneers. Petroglyph Beach is a highlight, with hundreds of rock carvings along the shore, and you’ll often find locals sharing stories and traditions that go back centuries. Further north, Skagway feels like stepping into the gold rush era with wooden boardwalks, restored saloons, and the narrow-gauge White Pass & Yukon Route Railway that climbs high into the mountains.

Few parts of the itinerary feel more dramatic than the glacier days. Sailing into icy fjords, you’ll see towering walls of blue-white ice, some stretching for miles inland. The experience of watching a glacier calve, a huge slab of ice breaking away and crashing into the sea, is something that stays with you. Excursions here might take you by kayak or small boat for a closer look, but even from the panoramic decks, the scale is unforgettable.
