Norwegian Aqua: Setting Sail as the World's Newest Luxury Cruise Experience

07 April 2025

I recently had the incredible opportunity to sail aboard the Norwegian Aqua for three unforgettable days, and I couldn’t wait to share my experience on the world’s newest cruise ship. This is a great ship for multi-generational families, couples, solo travellers, seasoned cruise lovers, or even first-timers. It truly has something to offer for everyone. I was blown away by how much there is to do for the children or young at heart. Children aged 3 to 12 can immerse themselves in fun at Splash Academy, enjoying Nintendo Switch gaming, arts and crafts, interactive games, and even a dedicated kids' aqua park. For teens, the Entourage club offers a perfect haven to unwind with game consoles, movies, and music, away from the younger crowd. The ship bursts with cutting-edge technology to captivate everyone—from an arcade and electronic darts to mini golf and the Glow Court, an immersive experience for playing basketball, football, or even "the floor is lava." The technology on this ship really caters for the generation of today. Thrill-seekers will adore the world’s first aqua coaster, the 10-story drop slide, and activities like shuffleboard, table tennis, beer pong, and pickleball. Relaxation takes centre stage with infinity pools, hot tubs, and a stunning spa boasting 22 treatment rooms, thermal pools, and a breath-taking waterfall. Indulge in treatments ranging from facials to IV vitamin drips and enjoy pure serenity. The ship also features 17 bars and lounges, an impressive theatre offering West End-calibre productions, and countless other amenities to ensure there’s truly something for everyone. The Norwegian Aqua Cruise Ship redefines the art of leisure and adventure at sea. For those guests seeking a child-free escape, the Vibe Beach Club offers a serene retreat exclusively for those aged 18 and over, available at an additional cost. Alongside this, the ship features plenty of quiet, peaceful spaces away from the lively buzz, ensuring you’ll always find the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy the tranquillity of the open sea. One of the highlights of my journey was the dazzling "Elements" production. This incredible show combines gymnasts, magicians, and dancers, rivalling the calibre of West End or Broadway performances. With wind sweeping through the theatre and snow cascading over the audience, it’s an immersive experience like no other—truly a moment that made me fall in love with the Norwegian Aqua. Food lovers will be delighted by the dining options on board. With 17 restaurants and a variety of specialty cuisines—including Teppanyaki, Mexican, Thai, steakhouse, French, and Japanese—the culinary experience is vast and satisfying for all tastes. For the solo travellers, if you book a studio lounge cabin, you have access to a lounge specifically for solo travellers where you can simply relax away from the hustle of the main ship or chat to like-minded travellers in a safe environment. And I haven’t even mentioned the Havin cabins! With 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom suites, and even 3 bedroom duplex suites, the design here is extremely modern in design and great for families or bigger groups. The haven is quite literally defined as a ship within a ship and I can see why. You have access to the most gorgeous heated infinity pool at the back of the ship, access to your own sauna at no additional cost, your own butler and your own space to relax on the most comfiest of sunbeds. For those interested, the "More at Sea" package is a fantastic add-on, including unlimited drinks and more to enhance your journey. With the ship being 10% larger than other Prima-class ships but without adding extra cabins, it feels spacious and thoughtfully designed. The Norwegian Aqua will be homeported in Miami, offering the perfect opportunity to combine a cruise with a Florida getaway—perhaps even a visit to Orlando. Looking ahead, Norwegian is set to launch another new ship, the Norwegian Luna, in 2026, which will mirror the Aqua’s innovative features. I can’t wait to see what’s next! Bookings are now open through 2027, so if this remarkable new ship has caught your eye, contact me today and let’s book your next dream getaway!

Mauritius - more than just a beach

18 December 2024

There’s no denying it, Mauritius is home to beautiful white sandy beaches, but what surprised me during my visit was how much more it had to offer. Located just east to Madagascar in the Indian Ocean, for a relatively small island (you can drive from north to south in just a couple of hours), there is so much to see and do and the landscapes change dramatically. The south is lush and mountainous and home to the mighty Le Morne Brabant and the north is renowned for its beaches, vibrant towns and flatter terrain used for agriculture. So what makes Mauritius stand out from the Maldives, Seychelles and Caribbean? It’s history What captivated me most during my visit was the rich and intriguing colonial history of Mauritius, particularly its strong French influences. While English is the official language and the school curriculum is taught in English, much of the media -including television, newspapers, and radio - functions primarily in French. This goes back to 1710 when the French established control over the island, bringing with them slaves from Senegal. This period gave rise to the Creole language - a blend of African dialects and French - which remains widely spoken today. In 1810, the British launched an attack from the north and took control of Mauritius. They allowed the French residents to remain, permitting them to continue speaking both French and Creole. Mauritius subsequently gained independence in 1968, but its colonial legacy continues to shape its identity and culture to this day. Things to do and see in Mauritius If you're considering a visit to Mauritius, here are my top 10 activities to enjoy: 1. Zip lining in Vallée des Couleurs Natural Park - Whether you're a beginner starting with the shorter 500m line or an adrenaline seeker looking to explore the Extreme Valley Tour which spans an impressive 3,100m, there’s something for everyone. 2. Helicopter ride over the mesmerising ‘Underwater waterfall’ located on the south west coast - This unique optical illusion makes it seem as if a huge waterfall is falling into the ocean’s depths from beneath the surface. 3. Hiking at Tamarind Nature Reserve and Black Gorges - Embark on a day-long hike through Tamarind Canyon in the Tamarind Nature Reserve, featuring 11 stunning waterfalls and natural pools for a refreshing dip. Alternatively, explore the breath-taking trails and bike paths around Black Gorges for an unforgettable day immersed in nature. 4. Seven Coloured Earths at Chamarel - a geological wonder made up of mineral clay formed from basaltic lava. The best time to see the sands is sunrise, when the light bounces off the dunes to create a spectacular light show. 5. Dolphin and whale watching boat tours - Mauritius is home to two different species of whales: sperm whales that reside year-round and humpback whales, which migrate to the shores from May to September to feed and nurture their calves. 6. Kitesurfing - Known as one of the best kitesurfing destinations in the world Mauritius offers reliable winds and a great variety of conditions that cater to all levels of kite surfers. 7. Hiking Le Morne Brabant - Classified as a UNESCO world heritage site, Le Morne is an impressive mountain standing at 555 metres altitude in the South-West of Mauritius. With cliffs that plunge down to a magnificent beach with an incredible panoramic view, Le Morne is one of the most iconic spots in Mauritius. The hikes takes approximately three hours and holds historical significance as a refuge for escaped slaves. 8. Grand Bassin - this sacred site is a significant place for the Indian community, featuring a beautiful lake and temples. 9. Wildlife encounters at Ile aux Aigrettes - If you’re interested in wildlife the animal sanctuary of Ile aux Aigrettes allows you to get close to species such as kestrels and giant tortoises. Between July and November, you can also sport a variety of whales just a short boat ride from the coast. 10. Golfing - With over 12 golf courses, including championship courses designed by renowned golfers like Ernie Els and Bernhard Langer, Mauritius offers stunning beachfront locations and ocean views for golf enthusiasts. Where I Stayed I had the pleasure of staying at Anantara IKO Mauritius, a stunning resort that opened in 2019. Conveniently located just 7 minutes from the airport, it’s an ideal spot for guests who want to avoid long car rides while exploring the southern part of the island. Before arriving, I had some concerns about potential noise from planes flying overhead while I relaxed by the pool. However, I’m happy to report that this was not an issue at all. There were only a handful of flights departing during the day, and they flew west of the property—not above it—making the location a definite advantage after a long journey. During my stay at Anantara, I indulged in some incredible dining experiences. From sushi to Indian cuisine, every meal was fantastic. One of the highlights was a trip to the local market in Mahebourg with the hotel’s chef. We returned to the hotel for a cooking lesson and enjoyed a delicious lunch featuring the fresh ingredients we had selected. I stayed in an Ocean View room. For those travelling with friends or family, the hotel also offers two-bedroom and four-bedroom villas, complete with private swimming pools and kitchen areas—perfect for multi-generational gatherings. When is the Best Time to Go? Mauritius has a tropical climate year-round, with its summer being October to May, peaking in January and February. However daytime temperatures rarely drop below 22°C. I visited in November, encountering brief rain, but the weather can change quickly. The best time to visit is from May to December for cooler, dry, and sunny conditions. While January and February attract peak tourism, they are also the hottest months and you may prefer the cooler climate. Final word Mauritius is more than just a beach destination; it’s a vibrant blend of culture, history, and adventure. With stunning landscapes and a rich colonial past, the island offers unique experiences for every traveller. Whether ziplining through lush valleys, enjoying the diverse cuisine, or participating in local festivals, Mauritius guarantees an unforgettable visit. Pack your bags and get ready to explore this Indian Ocean paradise! If you’re planning a trip to Mauritius, contact me today for personalised assistance and recommendations. I can’t wait to return to this beautiful island!

Our 2 weeks trip to Egypt

13 September 2024

Ever dreamed of taking your kids to see the Great Pyramids of Giza or exploring the Valley of the Kings in Luxor? I did too, and made those dreams come true on an unforgettable two-week family trip to Egypt that gave our 7- and 8-year-old a hands-on history lesson they'll never forget. Come along as we journey back to ancient times, riding camels past the Sphinx, descending into King Tut's tomb, and sailing the Nile in a felucca. From hot air balloons to scuba diving in the Red Sea, we packed our Egyptian adventure with kid-friendly activities and culture galore. Where we started We got direct flights to Luxor from London Heathrow and stayed at the Hilton Luxor in a family connecting guestroom for 4 nights and it was the perfect base for the start of our trip. It was close to all of the keys site and clean and modern. Visiting Ancient Sites Like the Valley of the Kings No visit to Luxor would be complete without exploring the Valley of the Kings. Here, beneath the arid desert sands, lie the tombs of pharaohs, each one a testament to the grandeur of ancient Egyptian civilisation. From the modest tomb of Tutankhamun to the breath-taking chambers adorned with vivid colours and hieroglyphs, you'll gain a deeper appreciation for the rich heritage that surrounds you. Hatshepsut's Temple: A Queen's Triumph Our trip continued with a visit to Hatshepsut's temple. As you wander through its intricate terraces and courtyards, our guide regaled us with tales of this remarkable queen who ruled as a king, donning a false beard to assert her authority. The story of her stepson's eventual return and his efforts to erase her legacy adds an intriguing layer to this ancient drama. Karnak Temple: A Playground for the Imagination Karnak Temple proved just as captivating. Arriving early allowed us to explore the towering columns and hieroglyphic carvings before the crowds. The kids loved running between the pillars, their laughter echoing through the centuries-old complex. This vast temple, dedicated to the mighty god Amun-Ra, is a true marvel of ancient architecture. As your guide unveils the stories etched in stone, you can't help but marvel at the ingenuity of the builders. Invaluable Guidance Our excellent guide really enhanced the Luxor experience. She kept the history lessons engaging for adults and children alike. Having that local expertise brought the ancient world to life in a way no book or museum exhibit could. Her thoughtful touring made checking off bucket list items feel seamless. Hot Air Ballooning Over Luxor at Sunrise Among the many incredible experiences we had in Luxor, one stands out as the absolute best - our hot air balloon ride at sunrise. This is one of the cheapest places to take a hot air balloon so if you have always wanted to do one but you were worried about the cost, Luxor is the place to take your first flight. Although my younger son wasn't initially enthusiastic about it, my elder son and I decided to seize the opportunity. Waking up at 3am, we embarked on this breath-taking adventure that created lasting memories we will cherish forever. Sightseeing in Busy Cairo With the Pyramids in View We then departed Luxor and caught a short flight to Cairo staying at the Marriott Mena House, which offers breath-taking views of iconic Pyramids of Giza. The kids loved venturing inside the narrow passageways of the Great Pyramid - it sparked their imagination about the pharaohs and workers who constructed this marvel centuries ago. One point I must make, is that it really does pay to have a guide when visiting the Pyramids. There are very persistent vendors and touts. We heard stories of men pretending to be ticket inspectors, then luring people to a secluded area, demanding a tip, before letting them carry on their day. It can quickly become an unsettling experience, particularly if travelling with small children. Here we also took a camel ride but please do pick your camels carefully - some are better looked after than others so I would recommend choosing your camel carefully. Museums packed with antiques Whilst in Cairo, we also visited the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation and the famous Egyptian Museum. Both house staggering collections of antiques. Whilst we did get to see Tutankhamun's famous mask and a collection of his finest jewellery as well as numerous royal mummies, there are limited interactive exhibits in the museums so they may not captivate younger children for too long and they were packed full of people, particularly the Egyptian Museum. I'd recommend these for families with older children fascinated by archaeology and ancient history. Relaxing at the Lavish Four Seasons in Sharm El Sheik After exploring the ancient wonders of Luxor and Cairo, our family was ready for some serious relaxation. The Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheikh was the perfect oasis - a luxurious beachfront paradise with every amenity imaginable. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in warm hospitality and impeccable service. The spacious suites offered breath-taking views of the Red Sea's shimmering turquoise waters. The real highlight, though, was the incredible house reef just steps from the beach. My 8-year-old son was over the moon to try scuba diving in the calm, protected waters teeming with vibrant marine life in the Red Sea. Due to his age, most places will only allow children to scuba dive in the swimming pool so this was a real treat for him. Under the watchful eye of a certified instructor, he got to explore stunning coral gardens up close. He spotted schools of kaleidoscopic fish, friendly sea turtles, and we even saw a few playful dolphins! It was an unforgettable adventure. After a whirlwind trip exploring Egypt's ancient marvels, those seven nights of pure indulgence were the perfect finale. The Four Seasons provided us with cherished memories of laughter, luxury, and quality family time before our direct flight back to Luton Airport. If you're thinking of booking a family trip to Egypt, contact me today. We went during Easter and it was the perfect temperature for taking in the sights as well as relaxing by the pool. My husband was initially sceptical about this trip due to the conflict in Giza but at no time did we feel like there was any threat to our safety. It was a trip to be cherished forever and one I would 100% recommend for anyone to go and do!
