Cruising Disney Style
So the cherry on the top of my visit to Disney World was the chance to enjoy a private tour around the Disney Wish who was docked at Port Canaveral, ready to pick up passengers and set sail to the Caribbean. Disney operates cruises from the US for 3, 5 and 7 days, and closer to home you can set sail from Southampton this summer on 3, 4 and 5 night itineraries on the magical Disney Dream, or in 2025 for the first time ever on the Disney Fantasy with bookings available now!
The Disney Wish is the newest Disney ship and if you take the best of the Disney resort hotels, dining and theme parks and jam pack it onto a cruise ship you’ll get the picture. Disney Wish hosts 4,000 passengers and 1,500 crew, she draws inspiration from a fairy tale castle and little touches likes complimentary wands given to children on arrival to the chandelier in the main lobby transforming into a light show at select times.
Staterooms are geared for families with Disney films represented in the décor and practical touches like elevated beds so you can store your suitcases out of the way, with a choice from the entry level Inside cabins to Oceanview and Verandah to the very luxurious and spacious Royal Suites part of the Concierge class where guests can enjoy a private sundeck, lounge with snacks/afternoon team, desserts and complimentary alcoholic drinks (set times).
For kids the facilities are beyond amazing, from the “it’s a small world Nursery” for little ones aged 6 months+, the “Oceaneers Club” where young kids enter via slide, “Vibe” for tweens that opens until midnight and the uber cool “Hideaway” for 14-17 year olds. There’s the “Marvel Super Hero Academy” where you are digitally scanned for your own super suit, the interactive “Star Wars Cargo Bay”, the “Imagineering Lab” with hands on magical activities based on behind the scenes are 10 pool and water play areas, a giant waterslide, the Hero Zone with high tech sports court, movie theatre and playground, plus the Walt Disney Theatre with the live production of “The Little Mermaid” and “Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular”.
For food, you’ll never get around them all, from “Mickey & Friends Festival of Foods” which offers multiple counters of food around the world, from Adult Only bars and restaurants like “Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge” with moving galaxy backdrop and signature drinks, “Beauty and The Beast” inspired “Palo Steakhouse” and “Enchante” restaurants to the theatrical “Arendelle” dining experience, or visit the interactive “Avengers: Quantum Encounter” for dinner – there’s even “1923” which drew its inspiration from old Hollywood and even has original sketches of Disney cartoons.
For downtime, the ”Senses Spa” is a paradise like oasis of calm and there’s even the “Quiet Cove” with infinity pool and poolside lounge. A little nerdy but important there’s even a high tech laundry with washing machines and irons galore!
Top tip: Look out for the Disney Treasure which will be the next addition to the line at the end of this year!
If you're a cruiseaholic or a Disney fan who has never cruised, Disney Cruises are definitely worth taking a look at
