Enchanting Danube
So hi lights - THE FOOD - was sensational - the best food I have had on a cruise seriously fantastic. Service was wonderful the staff were so lovely which comes as second nature to Uniworld if you have never travelled with them before they are awesome and make everything seamless Entertainment was excellent the bands they had on had us all bopping all night
There was 120 on board - the majority were from America ,UK and there were also passengers from Canada ,Thailand and Brazil! There was a lot of single ladies (taking advantage of the special offer on single cabins) so the dance floor was full until the band stopped!
The Itinerary was Passau - Salzburg-Vienna -Melk - Vienna- Bratislava -Budapest
This was an all inclusive cruise which includes gratuities on board -, excursions and food on full board (buffet breakfast /lunch) al a carte in the evening with 4 courses If we had travelled a week later we would have been able to see the Christmas Markets as in some of the locations were preparing the squares for the Markets which I would say was the only down side . The weather was quite cloudy, cold but dry for the entire trip
I enjoyed all the stops Austria is so Beautiful and has some wonderful architecture We visited Benedictine Melk Abbey which is above the town of Melk overlooking the Danube river , went Wine testing in Durnstein, From Linz ( where Hitler came from) we were able to take an optional excursion to Salzburg home of the sound of music stopping in Mondsee on the way to see the abbey where she was married in the Basilica . In Vienna we had exclusive access to the Art History Museum which was located in a stunning palatial building . This was opened in 1891 by Emperor Franz Joseph and decorated with lots of marble gold leaf and murals so a very beautiful museum with art dating back 5000 years housing the Habsburg monarchy private collection . We also visited Schonburn palace finishing the day with a private Mozart & Strauss concert in the Museum of Military History.
I keep mentioning the Habsburg family as the ruled over the Austrian Hungarian empire our boat was names after the queen Maria Theresa - in context Marie Antoinette was her daughter!
We also stopped in Bratislava in Slovakia which was a sleepier , miniature version of Vienna before finishing in Budapest
Budapest is a beautiful city we had a city tour and then left to our own devices . It was foggy when we first arrived but as the fog lifted there were some very impressive buildings just off the river to explore .At night the bridges were lt up in lights and also some of the buildings including the parliament and palaces on both sides of the river The trip was truly magical and sucj a pretty journey with lovely cities and small towns along the way paired with great food and entertainment on board
