‘Soul’ Breaks

Remember when we were all forced to go away for 7 or 14 nights. Just 2 options…take it or leave it!

Sure, those options are still widely available, but I suspect this has much to do with our own learned holiday habits which drives demand. What is the duration ’sweet spot’ though? 7 nights not enough? 14 nights just too long to be away from home? So, how about just 3 or 4 nights away? Err….what? Seriously??? For me, it hits the right tone, because it feels like a cheat. You’re not going on holiday per say, just stealing some time away but planning it well. Imagine this…

Depart East Midlands at 0900 and arrive into Menorca just after midday (local time). Transfer to a hotel chosen for it’s pretty Mediterranean setting and adults only policy. Sit eating Calamari and Jamon Iberico by the pool before 2pm. Stroll around the village that evening before a paella dinner. Day 2 on the beach with lunch by the sea and dinner on a restaurant terrace watching the sun go down. Day 3 by the pool and a short trip into the beautiful capital of Mahon for a harbour side evening meal. Day 4 is a nice lie in with a 12 noon check out before hitting the sunbeds again. Convenient and comfortable showering facilities let you change before a final evening meal and heading to the airport for the flight back. Arrive home refreshed and ready to take on the world again.

3 nights and 4 full days of eating, drinking, sleeping, swimming, exploring and soothing the soul.

But WHY does this work? It’s all in the planning: 1. Flights first - Early out and late back gives you maximum time away and it doesn’t have to be on the same airline. 2. Choose a location close to the airport – no more than 20 minutes transfer from Arrivals is perfect. 3. Meal bookings – It’s a service I offer all my clients. Restaurants researched and tables booked…no stress. 4. Be open on the destination – You may have been there before but did you stay close to the airport? Same destination, new experience. 5. Pack light – Less nights = less clothes = less luggage charges.

A ‘Soul’ break IS a life cheat. You should consider if you need one too. The above is a recent booking and I’m ready to create your very own.
