P&O Iona Shakedown
P&O’s newest ship Iona (2021)
Large ship, 184,700 tons, capacity 5200 passengers.
Should be popular with families, younger couples and first time cruisers.
I was invited on the P&O ‘Shakedown’ which is equivalent to a ‘test-run’ of the ship before paying passengers board.
Contemporary style with a striking 3 floor atrium which is surrounded by floor to ceiling windows. Guests can enjoy the views and enjoy dining and relaxing with a drink .
Cabins are well appointed with plenty of storage space, a large TV and a good sized shower room.
Standard Balcony cabins were adequate size (rather long and narrow however) within varying balcony sizes depending on location on the ship.
Conservatory style balconies have the added conservatory space with L-shaped sofa.
Be aware that cabins on deck 8 are overlooked as the Promenade that runs all around the ship is on this deck.
Excellent entertainment with plenty of variety including shows, comedians, vocalists and tribute acts. Singer and song writer Gary Barlow is the producer and musical director of many of the shows and the SkyDome was host to the amazing ‘Vibe’ show (recommended).
SkyDome is a pool area with a retractable glass roof that converts to an entertainment venue at night with shows and open air cinema.
MyHoliday App is P&Os newest innovation and was being tested on the sailing. Use to book restaurants and the theatre. This did have it teething problems but feedback on later cruise reveal that these are being ironed out.
Because of Covid regulations masks had to be worn at all times inside and in the theatre but could be taken off in other venues if you were seated and having a drink.
