But it's not really just me looking after you and the two of us chatting endlessly on WhatsApp over which is the nicest bit of Bali when I should actually be getting my son ready for school. We’ve got this far then, and you’re probably thinking why me? Not in the unexpected-item-in-the-bagging-area-for-the-fourth-time-kinda way, but in the who-is-this-woman-who’s-made-me-a-fake-coffee-and-rambled-on-about-holidays-for-three-paragraphs-kinda-way. I’m Beth (Hi!) Without giving too much away, I started my career in travel back when everyone thought Let Loose were the new NKOTB. Travel makes me me, and I’ve visited dozens of countries across five continents. Bluntly it’s an obsession I bore my husband with every evening. So if it can’t be me experiencing what it’s like to peer over the grand canyon, or feel the bounce of the seaplane skimming the azure that surrounds my paradise Maldivian island then I’ll do all in my power to make it feel for you like it did for me. In 2005 I was fortunate to fly to Windhoek, Namibia when we then drove to Ongava on the edge of the Etosha National Park. This is one of the best places to see the ‘big five’ and it lived up to all expectations. We then travelled to Sossusvlei to see the sand dunes, another must see. Followed by, Swakopmund to see dolphins and the Skeleton Coast which is home to millions of seals. Adding in some history we visited Twyfelfontein to see the ancient rock engravings and drove through Damaraland to see the desert elephants. We stayed in the most beautiful individual luxury lodges for 3 nights, making the most of the early morning and evening game drives. Closer to home I love to sail on Star Clippers traditional sailing ships, having crossed the Med with them several times; and in the winter I avoid the British weather by retreating to Tenerife for several weeks. My 40+ years travel experience started in university travel offices which gave me an unrivalled knowledge of airline and rail routes and off-the-beaten-track destinations, as many of the students and lecturers came from, or travelled to, some far-out places! In 1989 I started my own travel agency for independent travellers and was presented to HRH Prince Charles having won a competition for start-up businesses in the Calderdale area. Late in June 2008 I closed that business down and joined Travel Counsellors, providing support and security for myself and my clients. I’ve travelled widely and have specialist accreditations also for Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai etc, so I can offer a comparable service to all regions with the extensive and highly professional support of Travel Counsellors. Despite travelling extensively, my own wish-list never gets any shorter: as well as visiting Australia and New Zealand I have spent most winters in Tenerife and have also visited India, Morocco, Greece, Turkey, Italy, Holland, Denmark, Barbados, Mexico, Thailand, the USA: and I’ll go anywhere else given half a chance! My passion for discovering new places and cultures began at a young age; travelling to many different places around the world with my family. My Dad was a tour operator and an excellent holiday planner! We travelled all over the Middle East, the UK, USA and Europe. Every destination brought unforgettable memories. I have many memories of visiting unique places, being immersed in stunning landscapes, connecting with our family who are scattered all over the world, visiting old and making new friends, observing local traditions place to place and enjoying delicious food (my stomach was always the top priority and still is!) Those experiences became the foundation for my love of travel and future career. A little about me; I studied Law and graduated with a Masters from UCL in 2007. I soon realised my heart belonged elsewhere and joined my family’s travel business, where I organised group pilgrimages around the world to many destinations. Working closely with group organisers and leaders, I gained invaluable experience in designing specialised, meaningful travel experiences; from sacred journeys to cultural adventures with groups ranging from 15 to 400 people. I have developed an extensive knowledge and expertise in travel operations and dealing with group bookings and their specific requirements. My own travel highlights include hiking through the desert in the middle of the night to the Dead Sea for the sunrise (and then promptly falling asleep on a rock) exploring the spectacular caves of Frasassi, joining a walk and music evening in Petra, partaking in a Cretan sheep shearing fiesta (complete with copious amounts of meat, wine and improvised music) celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico, tasting my way through the markets of Nablus, Istanbul and Japan, watching my clients Baptisms in the River Jordan and walking the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem. I have been very privileged to join and be a part of many of my clients Spiritual journeys over the years. I'm a solo traveller at heart and have explored Europe, Thailand and Canada. My next bucket list trip is Antarctica next year, which I'm super excited about. Greece, though, is the place that has my whole heart - and where I hope to live one day with my Golden Retriever, Digby.
